Yes but there are public DNS servers that block blacklisted domains. I can set that as DNS in my router settings and it works the same as using pihole as a blacklisting DNS server, right?

Absolutely not. Russia’s propaganda efforts are unparalleled. They directly or indirectly fund many authoritarian movements across the globe and systematically spam social media with false information.
Israel isn’t knee deep in an information war against the US and Europe, is it? The ban didn’t happen because of the war against Ukraine. It happened because of the ongoing cyber war against democracy.
Ich kann in meiner Kleinstadt alle Fahrten des täglichen Bedarfs mit dem Fahrrad (ggf + Lastenanhänger) machen. Da ist es für mich ein absoluter no-brainer, kein Auto zu haben. Dank car sharing habe ich nie das Gefühl, in meiner Mobilität eingeschränkt zu sein.
