Germany is one of the few countries that actually very critically review their own history and spend a lot of effort on teaching younger generations the horrors of war (and of national socialism obviously).
(Meanwhile Japan just recently wanted Germany to remove a memorial statue for the women in Japanese prostitution camps, and made a contract with China to remove one there)
„Nie wieder“ - “never again”
Thanks, you gave me a good chuckle
Tradition isn’t the issue, the issue is not wanting anything to change. Those are completely different things.
Good: Festivities (like Christmas), cuisine, cultural heritage etc, all that (and more) can be summed up as tradition.
Bad: Saying something shouldn’t change because it has always been that way, uncritically continuing to do everything the way it has always be done. This is not tradition, it’s conservatism at best and backwards politics at worst.
The bad includes “traditional values” but traditional values don’t equal tradition - tradition is much more than that, and a lot of it isn’t bad.

A religion of hoarding money. It doesn’t get any more American than that.

What happened?
Well that’s about the system in the USA or some third world countries. Locking higher education behind a paywall only helps to keep the population uneducated, combine that with no focus on critical thinking in school and you get a population that’s easy to control and to polarise.
Of course politicians like Trump (or pseudo-democracies or straight up autocratic regimes in third world countries) really benefit from an easily-convinced population that’s not questioning them too much, so, given how strong the republicans currently are, that sadly probably won’t change anytime soon.
At some point they’ll realise that they need free or at least very affordable education to stay internationally competitive…
While you’d generally believe that to be true it can be hard for people with no knowledge who aren’t the brightest to see through statements like “doctors just are part of the wealthy smart people society who aim to keep us down”.
Never underestimate human stupidity.
But learning to critically question statements and judging them yourself (which requires some knowledge, for example you can’t question anti-vaxxers when you don’t know anything about how vaccines work) instead of simply believing them is extremely important in a democracy.
Pretty much everyone is making posts in English because I’m pretty sure literally everyone on Lemmy can speak English. You can’t assume someone’s nationality / first language just because a post is in English.
You say “all” but I’m pretty sure you only mean the ones in specific countries. In most European countries they simply do their job and don’t have a negative connotation (apart from people getting angry when they have to pay fines for speeding / parking wrongly / etc.).
Requirements and training also are much harsher here.
German Glocke = English bell = made out of metal
Literally Glockenspiel = bell game
Witcher 3. The story is insanely good, just remember: your decisions matter (but don’t look anything up).
Some people say it’s hard to get into it and to be fair it is a bit complicated first but you don’t have to use all mechanics, and it’s well worth getting into it.
It just got an official mod creator (yes, that game from… 2015? (graphics from 2022 since there was a huge graphics update) still got a new update in 2024) and the community still is strong so it’ll get even better over the next years.

But… but… what about infinite growth??
