I use arch btw

Credibly accused of being a fascist, turbolib, commie, anarchist, child, boomer, pointlessly pedantic, imperialist to my very core, zionist, a Russian psychological warfare operative, and db0’s sockpuppet.

Pronouns are she/her.

Vegan for the iron deficiency.

  • Legit I encounter this attitude heaps and have difficulty communicating the problem with it. Especially the often invisible but implicit violent threat that precedes any violent resistance and thus causes the violence.

It’s really hard to explain why reasonable people resort to armed resistance and the associated atrocities without lighting up the parts of their brain that get them to go “Are you saying terrorism is good?” and shutting down.

Hard to explain without endorsing sometimes.

  • To my endless frustration leftwing thought and policy is popular until someone knows it’s left wing.

I spend so much time talking to people and skirting around terminology/avoiding describing things in clear terms because they set off alarm bells.

As you say everyone gets that we’re screwed and pitted against each other while dipshits up top have their snouts in the trough. There is a spectrum on how far we ought to go to address this but it’s also really hard to get any action out of people because they’ll nod along until you try point them at a union or something and then the propaganda kicks in.

  • I dunno man there doesn’t seem to be the conditions for a self actualising revolution atm and isreal and the usa are undoubtably interfering. I mean the shah prince? the lion and sun flag? really?

Don’t get me wrong, braindead monarchists exist in iran and the diaspora in the same approximate proportion as every where stained by that transgression but this doesn’t seem like it’s going to lead to a government that cares for the people.

I hope I’m wrong but I am distinctly lukewarm on this. The current gov has been pretty effective at preventing organising and using misogyny as a wedge to divide the people.

  • I don’t think personification of nation states is a useful model when reasoning about how they behave.

Examples of transitions would be building up the independence and economies of previously oppressed states claimed in dominion, in order to build an economic bloc that can be relied on. Meanwhile winding back spending on military and force projection.

Nobody would ever do this, I just wish people could learn how to avoid the same mistakes as every previous empire.

At least life will almost certainly improve for south Americans.

  • The proles of the usa are not and have never been in charge. While I don’t advocate complete disengagement from ‘representative’ politics it is important to understand it as a distracting machine to give legitimacy to the bourgeois rulers.

If you want to change things your power base must be significant and, critically, it must exist outside the machinery of state.

  • It’s interesting to live through the death of a modern empire. Given how much access there is to history it really surprises me that no lesson is learned and no graceful transition is opted for.

Instead they follow the same route as all the empires of old, increasing violence and desperation practically guaranteeing hatred and reprisal when they are crippled and broken.

Of course all the elite will be dead by then so I suppose material analysis wins again as the correct lens to analyse history through.

  • Let’s trace your shifting goalposts, since you seem to have the memory of a goldfish:

You initially implied Russia was a proxy for someone, questioning the term “proxy war.”

When provided with the basic definition and the clear fact that Ukraine is the primary entity receiving direct external support to fight a war against a larger power, you had no substantive counter.

So now, you abandon the entire factual premise of the discussion and swerve into a moralistic declaration about the invasion being wrong.

You attempted a “gotcha” on terminology, failed, and now pretend the original debate was always about the morality of invasion. No one argued that invading was good.

Your insistence on reducing everything to “Russia bad, therefore Ukraine good” is exactly the liberal masquerade alsaaas called out. You conflate opposing Russian imperialism with endorsing the Ukrainian state or NATO’s project. You cannot hold two thoughts at once: that Russia is an imperialist aggressor and that the Ukrainian government is a corrupt, conscripting capitalist regime fighting a proxy war for Western interests that do not align with those of its own or the international proletariat.
