Economists refuse to use new metrics. Yeah we keep buying “luxury” goods. But that doesn’t mean shit when a daily existence requires stuff like smartphones and laptops that keep going obsolete every 3 years. Are those a luxury when existing in today’s daily life and work requires that I have all this stuff? Is that a fucking luxury? You think I want all this shit? Im happily running linux on my 2012 Mac for all my personal stuff but my work Teams Meet bullshit doesn’t play like that… Put away the old econ textbooks, boomer.

Seems like “Christianity” and “following Jesus’ teachings, words, and example” are completely at odds. I appreciate what you are saying. Why don’t we hear Jesus Followers calling out “Christians” more vocally and often? I’d expect more of a break in the church at this point, but it seems like a fairly united front to me even now.

If it is the landlord’s primary home then they should not be lumped in. Renting out a room to help pay mortgage on the home you live in is not the problem. It’s the second homes, the third, fourth, tenth, hundredth homes where it is an issues, and I do think we can lump all of those together. They are using our limited housing supply as a portfolio piece, inserting themselves as profit-driven middle-men and making it less attainable for lower income families.

Entities that buy and own homes purely for “investment” at any scale are the problem. For-profit housing should not exist at any level. Want to own a second home and rent it out to cover the costs? Sure, but require that it be a non-profit.
