People see it as a way to spread awareness about the fediverse alternatives that are out there. Like “hey, if you like this, there’s more where that came from.” It’s not for viewers who are already here, but for those where the post inevitably travels.
I dunno. Both watermarking and being annoyed at the watermarks seem like a waste of energy to me. If people are going to generate content, I’m not going to sass them about how unless it makes something about the content worse (harder to read etc).
It’s like using a very fine-grit sandpaper on your legs, so if that’s what you were imagining… yes? Maybe? You basically slowly buff off the hair.
Consider yourself lucky and walk away like you just dodged a bullet
weirdly antisocial
Completely forgets (or ignores) the fact that some people just don’t like their lives and avoiding thinking about it is what helps them get through the day. And that others legitimately have nothing new going on that they can discuss with those outside their inner circles. Like, I’m not going to tell someone I haven’t seen in a couple years all about the adult novel I’m looking forward to releasing in December, or that time I moved and nothing about it went well to the point it was mildly traumatic, so yeah, they’re going to get a “meh, not much. keeping busy. work and stuff. you?” at the most generous.
It’s hard to get across “no really, I find predictability comforting and/or am not willing to share the personal projects I fill my time with for various reasons.”
I think most of the people opposed to this post are confusing “I don’t need my whole feed to be about these things” with “I’m against these things.”

151·3 years agoAre you capable of checking the context of a statement before replying to it? The quality of the advice was not at issue. You asked why the person was hostile. Being an asshole begets hostility.

163·3 years agoCouldn’t possibly be because that person is acting like it’s our fault we’re too weak to have it too with the dismissive “bub” and the cry to “get your shit together.”
I got my first one of these when I was 21 and in the best shape of my life. Accidents, injuries, and unpreventable diseases happen, and acting like your comparative good luck means you’ve made better choices than those who have been less lucky by implying they’ve been “unhealthy as hell” is kind of gross.
Yeah, this is consistent with my experience too. I got one or two participation ribbons in my whole school life (graduated early 2000s), but they weren’t common, and they never came at the exclusion of winners being recognized.
I wonder if this is why I’ll see a post has a larger comment count than the comments I can read, too.
If you’ve blocked someone, that person’s comments and all comments replying to theirs are hidden from your view. This is my only guess why you might be seeing this. The comment count you see on your instance should be accurate, since it only counts comments it knows about and it doesn’t know about defederated ones.
Drama between Hexbear and ShitJustWorks. Have some popcorn.

Memes@lemmy.ml•Ah yes, it's in the 30s. That sounds.... lovely? too warm?
21·3 years agoAcclimatization is a whole thing. I remember thinking 65F / 18C was cold once upon a time, then I moved north and now only bother putting on a jacket if it’s below 40F / 5C or so (but now I start seriously suffering above 85F / 30 C where that used to be my ideal temp).
People who pretend certain temps are objectively not that cold or hot have never moved from one climate to another, I think. The person you replied to must be from a hot area.

17·3 years agoCelcius really isn’t that hard to get used to if you stop getting hung up on conversions and just live in it for a while. Faherenheit also isn’t as hard to get used to as people meme it to be. It’s all about what you’ve spent a significant enough time in to get the data points for how stuff feels to you.
Either scale would be second nature to anyone after a year in a new home. I made the change np. I never do conversion math, I just know what it feels like outside and can ballpark the number I remember having a similar feeling in the other place. It’s really not a big deal and not worth all the internet yelling that goes on about it.
Was funnier without the whole fig circle tbh
It’s a context thing, not a language thing. People will usually assume your title (hydrox) has something to do with the thing you posted (oreo knockoffs).
Did you just call Hydrox an Oreo knockoff
My dude, the better-entrenched brand is not always the original.

31·3 years agoYou’ve just described literally everyone whose fashion ever went beyond jeans and basic shirts. Hell, even some of them have embarrassing haircuts.
Do you not know that actual news clips from actual news outfits get posted on youtube sometimes
