    “o_o”

Do you not understand what that means to ethnic Koreans? It’s derived from the 1940s Japanese expressicon often used after they dressed slaves like animals to amuse themselves. The Koreans were no longer people in their eyes, they were less. Less than human, less than even beasts. They were servile dolls to be toyed with and discarded, which reflected in the Japanese refusing to use names or even the word “who.” The progenitor of your emote was often used as follows:

    “(。O ω O。) what is this?”

The overwhelming majority of users who came from Reddit seem to be ~19 and lack any degree of EQ, for better and worse. It’s homogenized into the old Reddit crowd but slightly more progressive, which has perplexed me. I still prefer it here, it’s an objectively better time sink than Reddit, especially since they switched their algorithm to cater to fake stories and celebrities. When AITA comes here, I’m moving to mastodon.

Edit: you’re welcome to downvote, it doesn’t change the very noticeable inability to recognize “stallman was right”

  • At what point does an life form become a pet? Can a particularly mobile carnivorous plant be a pet? If you refuse to take down a spider web and shoo flies toward it, does the spider become a pet? If you release ladybugs in your apartment to cull aphids, are they pets? If you briefly tend a goat to sacrifice it to Morlak, lord of dreams, to steal everything but your landlord’s nightmares, is the goat a pet?

Not particularly. If you’ve ever discussed anything of substance with an amateur colleague in your field, you might find novelty in the fresh perspective or even some minor nostalgia. When they meet, Bella is less than a colleague of life. She is a strangely shaped Labrador, which is fitting in that he grooms the shit out of her.
