Memes@lemmy.ml•The United States be like, "Who are you voting for?"English
225·2 years agoFunny! But like Palatine isn’t actively trying to end the voting system so am going to vote for him for the sake of the future
I think for people who have had long distance relationships it kinda is. Like I would say something like that to my ex, but we both knew it was impossible. Sort of a dark humor but you do what you have to do in those situations

6·2 years agoAt this point it’s just a meme. I mean I definitely don’t get it, but I have nothing against you as a person lol.

222·2 years agoPeople who watch literal recordings of movies from inside a movie theater are psychopaths who really, really don’t care about quality. I highly doubt they are the target audience of movie ticket sales.

Look I’m not judging I’m just saying you could have been at least listening to a podcast
It exists but it is actually quite rare.
Yeah I think as long as consent is given. Animals can’t give consent, which makes it immoral to eat them (according to vegans).
Cool lemme just build a train really quick to my work, great idea
Like I get what this is saying and all, and I will vote for anyone who supports this kind of thing, but telling me not to drive my car is not the solution.

Memes@lemmy.ml•Try not to use slave labor challenge (Impossible!)English
51·3 years agoNo.
Doing your own part as much as you are aware or capable is good, but if I were to try to avoid anything unethically sourced, I simply would not be able to participate in the modern world.
Do you use electricity? Do you have a cell phone? Have you ever used anything battery operated, like a flashlight? Have you ever eaten a hamburger? Have you worn a shirt?
Going around shaming people for things that are simply inevitably contributing to some unethical corporation is useless. We just need to agree that there is a problem, and do our best to make change.
I’m all for making personal commitments on topics you feel passionate about. But the fact is, that won’t make a difference on the grand scale. Only through government action is that possible.

12·3 years agoThat’s awesome! I think it’s important to note, however, that the burden of change here is not on the individual. The average person is not an activist, and shouldn’t be expected to be. Nestle knows that, too.
Change on this scale can only happen through government regulation.
It’s that or some kind of next-level art project
Nah but this is all Lemmy is at this point. That sucks. We need more than this.
It’s ok that this has a place here. But we need more than this.
Want some hard truths? Blinders off, reddit is still a much better place for content than Lemmy.
Honestly I’m getting tired of it.
Edit - I feel the need to say that there is actually one consistent thing on Lemmy that is fantastic - rpgmemes, specifically the ongoing series about a goblin high priestess playing dnd.
I agree, but I don’t think in black and white. My Dutch friend is probably completely oblivious to any of that, and he is a good person. Most people are probably in that same situation.
Would it be good for the government (or any government) to come out and apologize for shitty things that happened in the past? If course. But that isn’t a reason to use blanket “we hate these types of people” statements seriously.
This was a joke, we don’t actually hate the dutch
Same. In most of the interactions I have had with Americans here (including myself), they have been generally pretty aware of the faults of the United States and willing to admit to them.

Give the dude his cupcake recipe yo
