Wouldn’t the best term be mercantilism? Power through the accumulation of wealth, but instead of nations it’s now corporations. It’s definitely not capitalist since capitalism is about having competition, and that doesn’t happen without constant government intervention to break up monopolies and trusts.

Honestly, I’m not against ads, I understand that a site with free articles needs to pay the bills somehow. The reason I use ad block is that online ads have become so intrusive that it makes websites unusable, and the way they track you is way over the line. If ads didn’t completely destroy the experience of reading a website and were reasonable in the data they collected I probably wouldn’t bother with ad block.

Open your eyes, the world isn’t even real. Once you realize that you can take whatever form you want.
As bad as establishment candidates tend to be, trump is far far worse. The problem with the trump supporters is they boil everything down to “X bad, so not X good!” Trump was an outsider which is why they supported him, but just being an outsider doesn’t automatically make you good, and in his case he’s far worse.
How is tiktok anything like WikiLeaks or lavabit? How is Lemmy like them either?

3·2 years agoAre there interesting powers? I want a hack n slash that has more physicality to the powers so there’s more strategy to positioning and mob management. Like cleave powers that send enemies flying backwards, or wind powers that blow open a path forward, or time bubbles that slow enemies and projectiles in an area. I’m kinda bored by games that just have numbers tied to an animation.
It used to be fast and cheap, what happened to the cheap part?
There are lots of things to vote for besides president. Frankly, if your political involvement is limited to caring only about the President once every 4 years, then you have no right to complain. The only way to change things is to get more involved, not less.

I picked Portland because its a big city
Restaurant prices aren’t a secret. I just checked places in Portland and the most expensive burger I could find was $15 and that came with fries, and that was the most expensive one on the menu. This is a meme joke and is exaggerating to be funny, don’t confuse that with reality.
That’s a bullshit explanation of cultural appropriation and the person you heard it from is an idiot. Actual cultural appropriation is when you take something from another culture and either erase or overwrite its origin, so the original culture in its original form becomes forgotten.
For example, when white artists re-recorded songs from black artists and specifically removed them from the credits and claimed them as their own, that was cultural appropriation. When movie studios chopped up Indian culture and presented it in a completely distorted and inaccurate light, so much so that the original meanings were lost, that was cultural appropriation.
Simply being a participant in someone else’s cultural celebration is not cultural appropriation.

51·2 years agoI think a better way to view it is that it’s a search engine that works on the word level of granularity. When library indexing systems were invented they allowed us to look up knowledge at the book level. Search engines allowed look ups at the document level. LLMs allow lookups at the word level, meaning all previously transcribed human knowledge can be synthesized into a response. That’s huge, and where it becomes extra huge is that it can also pull on programming knowledge allowing it to meta program and perform complex tasks accurately. You can also hook them up with external APIs so they can do more tasks. What we have is basically a program that can write itself based on the entire corpus of human knowledge, and that will have a tremendous impact.

23·2 years agoIt doesn’t need to understand the words to perform logic because the logic was already performed by humans who encoded their knowledge into words. It’s not reasoning, but the reasoning was already done by humans. It’s not perfect of course since it’s still based on probability, but the fact that it can pull the correct sequence of words to exhibit logic is incredibly powerful. The main hard part of working with LLMs is that they break randomly, so harnessing their power will be a matter of programming in multiple levels of safe guards.

173·2 years agoLLMs are intelligent in the same way books are intelligent. What makes LLMs really cool is that instead of searching at the book or page granularity, it searches at the word granularity. It’s not thinking, but all the thinking was done for it already by humans who encoded their intelligence into words. It’s still incredibly powerful, at it’s best it could make it so no task ever needs to be performed by a human twice which would have immense efficiency gains for anything information based.
The last panel never happens, the rich are enjoying their gated communities and private luxuries while the poor blame each other and tear themselves apart instead of teaming up against the rich, because the rich own mass media and has brainwashed large swaths of the public.

Don’t forget leftists that actually share all the same views but describe them in slightly different ways.
