  • Whenever I release music myself, I actively block it in Russia, because they relentlessly steal my trance / freeform releases and upload them in warez sites.

Of course geoblocking can be circumvented by a determined pirate but it helps to not be on their radar in first place as a lesser known artist.

As an example, once I released a freeform album. Freeform is a very niche, small scene. It was on Russian forums within a couple of days. Fortunately one of my fans notified me, I had a Russian friend contact the site on my behalf to explain that I’m a poor struggling artist, and they’re literally taking money out of my pocket; to my surprise they agreed to take the links down.

I browse lemmy a lot on mobile. When I first looked into lemmy mobile clients, they were read only.

This post inspired me to get Sync 4 Lemmy, now I’ll be commenting much more (careful what you wish for haha as I’m sure I will have opinions some don’t agree with, but hopefully can always debate rationally)

  • Do you notice the difference between our systems? Yours is AMD cpu / AMD gpu, mine is intel cpu / nvidia gpu. We know AMD worked with BGS to some extent to make sure Starfield was well-optimised for their gear. I had a bit of a paranoid moment during my struggles to get it running that BGS had deliberately not optimised the game for non-AMD components and this info does not assuage my paranoia haha.

  • The nature of PCs I guess. I ran it on an i9 12900k, 2070s GPU, 48gb ram, m2 SSD, xbox gamepass and had no end of troubles. Even once I got it running, a majority of quests (inc main quests) were bugged to the point I had to use console commands to get past the bugs.

I’m by far not the only one. People were crashing on console! That’s insane. We now pay to be bugtesters.

It took me a whole week of mucking about and bugtesting just to get the game to run without crashing every couple of minutes. It’s bizarre to me how attached some people seem to be to the idea that the game is up to the standard we expected (not saying you are, but just look at some of the comments that have been downvoted)

I was out for a meal with friends just before the pandemic, waitress was a heart-stoppingly beautiful goth lady. I’d had a few drinks and blurted out “Oh my gosh, I would sacrifice my firstborn to you”… without skipping a beat she replied “Deal”. Legendary response to a drunken fool.

Once, I discovered the perfect flyswat. It just so happened that after a long battle to get a fly to leave peacefully, the closest thing to hand was an empty plastic clothes basket. You know the kind, with lots of holes through all the sides.

In frustration I grabbed the basket and swatted the fly. It made an amazing “swoosh” sound, like swinging a pipe in Streets of Rage. I can only imagine the blind panic as the fly executed its usual escape manoeuvre, only to find that the object it attempted to dodge was less of a rolled-up newspaper, and instead the swat equivalent of a star destroyer.

Finally, a strike back for team human…

  • I dated women in their 40s while I was early 20s, we got some funny looks occasionally but generally no-one gave a shit. What two consenting adults do is their own business. Though now I’m in my early 40s, I don’t think I’d have a lot in common with someone at 21; and maintain that just because it’s ‘legal’ doesn’t mean it’s ethical, someone at 18 just does not have the life experience nor fully-formed pre frontal cortex to deal with someone who’s fully-adult. Ripe for abuse imo.

I wonder if the downvotes are from people who think you sound incel-y. I mean, you do a little bit, but I think a lot of people nowadays identify with that “there’s no point dating” feeling, though are too nervous to voice it. All but the most narcisissistic of us have a little voice in the back of our minds giving ‘sage’ advice about how worthless we are from time to time, and if you’ve dealt with a lot of rejection that only gets reinforced.

If you do try stuff like tinder, be well advised that it’s a very long shot. You might be better off with a paid service like match.com… my dad found love after his divorce pretty quickly when he joined that site, I assume because anyone who’s paying to be on a dating site is more invested in finding that someone special vs apps like tinder which incentivise short-term approach to dating.

While it’s easy for me to say, in this case you contributed to your stress levels. I’m not a buddhist but I found a lot of the teachings helpful, combined with an audiobook from Derren Brown called ‘Happy’… in this situation the best move would be to assess what can be changed (activity, location) and what cannot be changed (the weather, if the fish are biting, mosquitos).

It’s a bit of a grim idea to come to terms with, but acceptance that many aspects of life happen to us with no control is oddly freeing. Anyway I’ll fuck off now with my advice. You might hate it and I can’t control that!
