They speak of sharing with others, so they’re talking about the family plan, so it’s actually £20 in the UK.
It’s £20 ($26.33) per month here. You are either lying or are in an exceptionally cheap country.
It kinda made sense for a while. Remember we’re looking at this from a modern lense.
240 is very divisible. It’s similar to why we chose 360° for a circle, or 24 hours in a day.
It stopped making sense as more and more countries shifted to decimalisation, and machines made extremely quick+accurate division trivial and accessible.
I say we fully commit the other way
An British person.
A American person.
They only have it because they reached a deal with Google.
But like saying Android isn’t proprietary.
Like yeah, technically true, but in reality everybody uses a proprietary version of it controlled by Google.
I’m in two minds about this. On the one hand, philosophically, the user should be in charge of their PC, and updates should happen at a time of their choosing.
On the other hand, people are idiots. Especially the type of people who think they know everything but in reality don’t. The type that will search for registry hacks or scripts that disable updates, and proceed to live without any security patches, putting not only their own system/data at risk, but others too.
It’s probably a necessary evil that MS forces security patches on users.
What isn’t so forgivable is them pushing all the other crap on people, or why the updates take so fucking long on shutdown/startup. That’s what they need to improve. Far fewer people would care about avoiding updates if a reboot after an update was imperceptibly different to any normal startup, like it is on Linux.
MS is a $3tn company. They can achieve this if they want to, but they see spending money on Windows as a waste of money - why improve something when you’ve already cornered the market? It doesn’t benefit them. It doesn’t make them more money. Windows is dominant either way, they get their licensing fees either way. Improving Windows damages Microsoft.
A washer or dryer is never late. Nor it it early. It finishes precisely when it means to.

5·2 years agoThe only other good term for Enshittification I’ve seen used is Platform Decay. It was even coined by the same person who coined enshittification.

265·2 years agoThe difference is that Apple usually executes it well, and Microsoft doesn’t.
You set a Windows PC to dark mode, half of the system is still bright white. Apple wouldn’t dream of doing that shit.
You start searching in the start menu, it’s slow, gives you different results each day, misses a bunch of stuff, and tries to send you to Bing. Apple wouldn’t dream of doing that shit.
Microsoft comes up with a new UX, but it’s only a thin veneer, most of the system doesn’t even use it and instead uses Win7 or earlier menus. Apple wouldn’t dream of doing that shit.
For all their flaws (and believe me I know they have many. I don’t intend to ever own an Apple product), Apple actually gives a shit about having a polished and consistent UX.
They wouldn’t have a dark mode that still leaves half the system white, they wouldn’t have 20+ year old UI cruft, etc.
It’s very much more of a
American criticises America: crickets
Non-American criticises America: hooooo boy here comes the nationalism
You ever considered that maybe the US deserves to be ridiculed for seeing children die and choosing to do nothing about it?
I understand it’s a touchy subject, but come on. It’s a serious stain on the US. The US deserves immense criticism for it.
Nobody is mocking children for being murdered, that would be disgusting.
People are mocking the very much unique to the US culture of yes, we know children are being shot in schools, and no, we aren’t going to do anything about it, you crazy freedom-hating commie!
It’s a macabre mocking of your crazy gun culture and politics. Not of your children. I thought that was pretty obvious.
But everyone does anytime they buy a laptop and most of the time, a prebuilt desktop.

This has always been a Tankie instance for people that hate the west but don’t have the balls to move to the countries they simp for.
