  • Well at that point we’re stepping into the realm of the “read theory” international english dictionary.

Like you said, none of those activities are what reasonable people would consider “doing nothing”, so why should we give credence to the capitalist notion of such by quoting it?

At the same time my earlier point still stands, there are very few people in this world that are actually capable of feeling personally satisfied living in a fashion where they have nothing to fill their days with.

We can recognize the balm to the spirit a calming walk, or a day relaxing under the sun, or even just a day staying bed can be to the spirit without adopting a rhetoric that makes it seem that those are permanent states to aspire to.

  • I disagree with the “doing nothing is good for the soul” one only for UBI experiments bearing out that even in a vacuum of satisfied needs people will still tend to make project work for themselves just to have something to do to not be bored.

Being able to relax at one’s own discretion and necessity is healthy, but having something to say you do for yourself is evidently somewhere in that hierarchy of needs.

The post civil war occupation of the south.

It was basically a brief golden age for black leadership in the south because that’s how “not letting anyone fuck around” the union occupation force was with the traitors.

It was so effective at cock blocking the terrorist little shitbags that the red second they had enough political leverage they had them disbanded and proceeded to immediately kick off the first golden age of the klan.

Southern Occupation style military police detachment,

A soldier fresh out of bootcamp has more trigger discipline and de-escalation training than your typical blue bastard anyways, and the federal military answers to the federal government, so they can’t negotiate qualified immunity agreements or any of that shit, and their funding is already provided, so no quota meeting traffic ticketing.

People always try to invoke “just a few bad apples” forgetting the rest of that phrase.

One bad apple spoils the bunch. Doesn’t matter if you’ve got a squad of Clark Kent boyscout types, the fact remains that if they can deal with even one Lex Luthor being a shitass in their uniform without actively trying to put a stop to that situation, they’re all suspect.

Normally it’s unreasonable to expect someone to stick their neck out just for the sake of doing the right thing alone, but these people menace society with military kit and weaponry under the premise that they’re the exception to that. They tell us all the time that it is their job to risk their lives to stop people from getting victimized, so it’s more than fair to judge them when they don’t hold themselves to the same standard when dealing with their own.

  • The innovation of capitalism is that the right to own land or other capital assets isn’t an exclusive right of the aristocracy. There is no law in letter which says you cannot ever own a home, and that is a new thing in the west. The next capitalist innovation was that you don’t have to own something to have the rights of people who do own things, which was unheard of prior to the liberal capitalist revolutions of the 1700s and 1800s.

It’s important to understand that things we take for granted in the present day did not always exist, nor are they necessarily guaranteed to keep existing unless specific effort is made to prevent them from being destroyed by the forces that want to go back, in today’s day and age, that being the emerging class of inheritance billionaires who through various means are acquiring more and more outsized political power as well as more and more outsized ownership of resources, creating an in fact reversal of the liberal reforms of the feudal system which even Marx hailed as a huge and essential step in the right direction for the era it happened in.

  • Capitalism is based on the theoretical right of ownership in an era where only feudal aristocrats could own anything, in the present day and age many people in a capitalist society own their home and primary mode of transport and there isn’t a law per-se that restricts anyone from even being allowed to own a home or car or horse or whatever other than being under aged.

The next step is the degree to which that right should be that you can in theory own a home, vs the right to own a home in fact. IE, the equality of opportunity vs the equality of outcomes. This is another dimension in which class struggle is in fact intersectional with identity politics, as that same equality of opportunity vs equality of outcomes struggle is what defines a lot of modern race and gender relation conflicts in the present day, or at least what did before the right decided to drag us all kicking and screaming back to the 50s, the 1850s.

  • As a Palestinian American, if the fascists don’t kill me the aneurysm I’ll probably get reminding these fuckasses that we live here too and will be much worse off under Trump than under Biden.

They always love us as dead bodies, dead bodies can’t talk back about being fetishized as martyr figures and demand accountability for a “good” person acting proud of standing there and letting evil triumph because they didn’t sully their own pride in the process.

It’s the same as how Republicans cling to fetuses, free sympathy with no demands for solidarity to answer to!

Also as someone with a lifelong stutter f-f-f-fuck people who make jokes about Biden having Alzheimer’s sideways with a running rusted chainsaw coated in ebola hosting fluid! My disability is not a fucking political baseball bat to beat someone with!

    • two party system is kind of a misnomer, there’s plenty of other parties and potential parties in the US, a lot of which would theoretically correspond to larger parties in more healthy democratic states. The difference is that since the US operates on plurality voting, only two parties are ever going to have major influence in any electoral area, some countries like Canada and the UK have more diverse political ecosystems, but that’s born more out of the ability of parties in both to form voting coalitions. In the US the Democrats and Republicans each encompass big tents that hold several groups that would otherwise be their own political parties.

    • It’s less that they’re both popular and more that nobody is capable of organizing a meaningful alternative unless it happens to be during the one time of the political season when you really should have the alternative well established already. Both parties have been around for over a century now and have proven ideologically flexible enough to avoid the doom of prior parties like the Federalists, Democratic-Republicans, and Whigs that had previously held one of the two top spots.

I see a likely future where some great mechanism of upheaval will bring about a nation spanning voting reform in the US, and when that happens the Dems and the Republicans will likely remain as the two top players but now amidst a large field of options that are able to compete with one another without spoiling elections for the overall wing of the political spectrum they lay within, longer term would be harder to predict as those kinds of democracies haven’t existed for long enough to observe how parties shift change and move forward and backward relative to one another over a more extended period than a few decades.
