Memes@lemmy.ml•First as tragedy; second as farce; third time’s the charm
1·3 months agoyes, manufactured consent/propaganda in general is a delicate thing.
say what you want about the tenants of national socialism, atleast it’s an ethos
meema needs to learn how to bake
this is what republicans do every time they’re in power, they’re predatory disaster capitalists…create targeted disruption/general chaos to generate “volatility/liquidity” insiders can make a killing on.
then establishment dems come in and do the same thing, but they atleast want to keep up veneer of stability and (absolute minimal) progress.
this cycle has repeated itself many times now
being the only dinosaur left unscarred from ww2 meant none of these family-of-sociopaths were ever forced to recognize we’re kind of in this mess together. needing to completely rebuild your infrastructure from 0 kind forces a bit of empathy into everyone i think.
with how purposefully fractured the US is (long long history of this, many towns across the country are de facto company towns for the local real estate baron), this will only happen if the country has another Great Depression era. which is very much a possibility given the US’s ever growing sovereign-debt crisis and a completely gutted internal manufacturing capacity/capability.
if/when the US finally defaults and USD crumbles as world reserve currency (which is already happening, countries are just trying to gtfo as sustainably as they can without crashing their own house of cards)…shit goes from bad to worse real fucking quick.

Memes@lemmy.ml•My life has been way better since I started keeping a cursory view of headlines once a day
3·5 months agothe people paying attention to the news constantly and using that to actually makw change are not watching a constant stream of it from their phone…they’re coordinating in groups to affect the most effecient change for their time/sphere of influence (first step generally being to secure the local government, the majority in the US are captured by local business/real estate baron interests)
if your sphere of influence just comprises your immediate family and friends, it does you no good to occupy your mind with the suffering of those halfway across the world (unless you think their suffering is tied to an easily solvable problem you have the answer to). doing so just robs you of energy/agency to affect change where you can have the most impact.
there’s saying i don’t remember where it’s from… before you fix the world you have to fix your country, before you fix your country you have to fix your community, before you fix your community you have to fix your neighborhood, before you fix your neighborhood you have to fix your family, before you fix your family you have to fix yourself.

4·5 months agoyou definitely can do things about it, but there’s a whole sphere of influence/realistic expectations type shit everyone should consider, when trying to do something about it. worrying about things you can’t control and that don’t immediately effect you or the ones close to you you (i hate English) care about is just draining and robs you of agency over the things you can control.

i like watching people, even more interesting than wildlife
the real secret is to cut the pineapple fresh then put it on, don’t cook it with the pizza
cooked pineapple is fucking nasty, fresh pineapple on pizza is great

eh, prettt sure most of that is the US punching itself in the face
